Biography
Henry McLeish's path to power was as unconventional as his time in it. Before entering politics, he was a professional footballer for East Fife, a background that gave him a grounded, everyman appeal. Elected as a Labour MP in 1987, he became a key architect of Scottish devolution. His ascent to First Minister in 2000 was a moment of promise, but his tenure was defined by a rapid, dramatic unravelling. The 'Officegate' scandal, involving subletting arrangements from his MP days, forced his resignation after just over a year. Yet, his impact outlasted the controversy.
