The visionary frontman of Soda Stereo who shaped the sound of Latin American rock with poetic lyrics and sonic innovation.
Gustavo Cerati was the architect of a new sonic landscape for Spanish-speaking youth. As the lead singer, guitarist, and principal songwriter of Soda Stereo, he moved far beyond the conventions of 1980s rock, infusing post-punk, new wave, and later, electronic textures into ambitious concept albums. The band's concerts were not mere performances but immersive experiences, with Cerati's charismatic, coolly detached stage presence commanding stadiums across the continent. After Soda Stereo's dissolution, his solo work dove deeper into atmospheric rock and intricate production, albums like 'Bocanada' and 'Ahí Vamos' showcasing a restless artist constantly refining his craft. His 2010 stroke, which led to a four-year coma until his death, tragically silenced one of the most inquisitive musical minds of his generation, but his sophisticated body of work continues to inspire musicians across genres.

The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.
Gustavo was born in 1959, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
