A rock-solid defender who anchored Nigeria's backline during their triumphant 2013 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
Godfrey Oboabona rose from the Nigerian domestic league to become a mainstay for the Super Eagles at a golden moment. The centre-back from Benin City first made his name with Sunshine Stars in the Nigerian Premier League, earning a reputation for his no-nonsense tackling and aerial command. His consistent performances caught the eye of national team coach Stephen Keshi, who integrated him into a squad built on domestic talent. Oboabona's timing was impeccable; he became an indispensable part of the defense that shut down opponents en route to Nigeria's 2013 Africa Cup of Nations victory in South Africa. That success propelled him to a European career, most notably with Çaykur Rizespor in Turkey, where he spent several seasons. While injuries later hampered his trajectory, his legacy is cemented as one of the key local-bred pillars of a historic Nigerian team.

Godfrey was born in 1990, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
