A rock in the Italian scrum for over a decade, his strength and stability were foundational for the national team's forward pack.
Gianluca Faliva's career was built in the tight, dark spaces of the rugby scrum. As a loosehead prop, his job was one of sheer force and technique, anchoring the set piece against the might of international opponents. He earned his first cap for Italy in 1995 and became a regular fixture in the squad during a period of growth for Italian rugby. Faliva was part of the team that gained entry into the Six Nations Championship in 2000, a milestone for the sport in Italy. While not a flashy try-scorer, his value was measured in meters gained in the tight and scrums won. He played his club rugby for Benetton Treviso, contributing to their domestic dominance, and his 24 international caps stand as a testament to his durability and importance in the trenches of the front row.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Gianluca was born in 1973, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
