Co-wrote 'Rock Lobster' in 1978, a song John Lennon credited with reviving his interest in rock music and recording.
Fred Schneider co-authored 'Rock Lobster' with guitarist Ricky Wilson in 1978, releasing it on the B-52's self-titled debut album. The track's surreal lyrics, Schneider's monotone cadence, and Wilson's surf guitar reached number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a staple at New York's Studio 54. John Lennon stated in a 1980 interview that hearing 'Rock Lobster' at a disco convinced him rock 'n' roll still had vitality, directly influencing his 'Double Fantasy' sessions. Schneider formed the band in Athens, Georgia, after a shared flaming volcano cocktail at a Chinese restaurant with Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson, Ricky Wilson, and Keith Strickland. His vocal style derived from reciting poetry over garage rock, avoiding melody in favor of rhythmic declaration. The B-52's survived the 1985 death of Ricky Wilson to release 'Cosmic Thing' in 1989, selling four million copies. Schneider's delivery created a new archetype: the non-singing frontman as eccentric town crier. His impact forged a permanent link between punk absurdity and danceable pop, expanding rock's vocal lexicon.

The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.
Fred was born in 1951, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
