Biography

Franco Baresi’s story is one of Milanese blood and iron. Joining AC Milan as a youth after being rejected by Inter, he became the soul of a club he would captain for fifteen seasons. In an era of brutal attackers, Baresi defended with a poet’s grace, his reading of the game and precise distribution launching attacks from the back. He was the defensive cornerstone of Arrigo Sacchi’s revolutionary Milan side, a unit that dominated Europe. Though he missed a penalty in the 1994 World Cup final, his earlier performances were instrumental in Italy’s 1982 triumph. His number 6 shirt was retired by Milan, a testament to a defender who was less a player and more an institution.

Baby Boomers

1946–1964

The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.

Franco was born in 1960, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
