A Dutch football strategist who transformed FC Utrecht into cup specialists, securing historic back-to-back trophies.
Foeke Booy's story in football is one of evolution, from a reliable forward to a sharp-minded tactician. His playing career, spanning clubs in the Netherlands and Belgium, was solid but it was from the touchline that he made his most lasting mark. Appointed manager of FC Utrecht in 2003, he engineered a period of remarkable success for a club not traditionally among the Dutch elite. Booy instilled a pragmatic, hard-to-beat philosophy that proved perfectly suited for knockout football. In a stunning two-year spell, he guided Utrecht to consecutive KNVB Cup victories, a feat that etched his name into the club's history. After management, he moved into player assessment, using his eye for talent in scouting roles, most notably helping to build squads for Almere City.

Foeke was born in 1962, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
