A former Labour MP whose rapid political rise was dramatically cut short by a conviction for perverting the course of justice, leading to her historic recall.
Fiona Onasanya's political career was a brief and turbulent chapter in British politics. A solicitor specializing in property law, she entered Parliament in the 2017 general election, capturing Peterborough for Labour in a surprise victory. Her background as a black, female lawyer in a traditionally white, working-class seat was seen as a symbol of Labour's evolving coalition. However, just over a year into her term, her political future unraveled. She was convicted of lying to police to avoid a speeding ticket, an offense for which she served a short prison sentence. This triggered the UK's first successful recall petition under the 2015 Recall of MPs Act, leading to her removal from office in a 2019 by-election. The case became a national story, a stark lesson in personal accountability for public officials. Onasanya maintained her innocence throughout, even launching an unsuccessful appeal, but the episode ended her parliamentary career and left a lasting mark on the rules governing MP conduct.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Fiona was born in 1983, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
