A stylish and tenacious Italian left-back whose career renaissance at Roma made him a cult hero and a symbol of passionate defending.
Federico Balzaretti's football journey was one of persistence and late-blooming acclaim. A reliable and attacking full-back, he spent his early career bouncing between clubs like Torino, Juventus, and Fiorentina without ever quite becoming a star. His move to Palermo in 2008, however, unlocked his potential; there, his marauding runs down the flank and committed defending earned him a spot on the Italian national team for Euro 2012. The pinnacle came with his 2012 transfer to AS Roma, where, despite being in his thirties, he became a fan favorite. Balzaretti played with a visible, gritty passion, his distinctive beard and relentless effort embodying the spirit of the Giallorossi. A serious injury in 2014 cut his peak years short, but he retired having left an indelible mark. He transitioned smoothly into a front-office role at Roma, helping shape the club's future as a loan manager.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Federico was born in 1981, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
