Biography
Elke Sommer played Maria Gambrelli opposite Peter Sellers' Inspector Clouseau in 'A Shot in the Dark,' holding her own in a comic role that showcased her timing. Discovered as an au pair in London, her blonde looks and lively personality brought her into European films first. Hollywood cast her as the charming foreigner in comedies with Bob Hope and Peter Sellers. She moved between Agatha Christie adaptations and gritty European thrillers. Sommer also painted passionately, holding exhibitions of her work. Later, she engaged in a lengthy, public legal battle with Zsa Zsa Gabor, revealing a fierce determination behind her glamorous smile.
