The charismatic French freestyle skier who captured Olympic gold in moguls, then shaped the future of the sport as a key Olympic organizer.
Edgar Grospiron won the gold medal in mogul skiing at the 1992 Albertville Olympics, a victory that made him a national hero and legitimized freestyle skiing as a premier Olympic event. Hailing from La Clusaz, he combined technical precision with aerial daring in the then-nascent discipline. He added a bronze in Lillehammer two years later. After retiring, Grospiron led Annecy's bid for the 2018 Winter Games and now presides over the organizing committee for the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps. His career traces the arc of modern freestyle skiing, from its fringe, daredevil roots to global spectacle, a journey he influenced both on the slopes and in the boardroom.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Edgar was born in 1969, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
