A Nigerian dentist turned Swedish dancefloor conqueror who sold 16 million records with his infectious Eurodance-reggae fusion.
Born Ogbuagu Alban Uzoma Nwapa in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Dr. Alban’s path to pop stardom was anything but direct. He initially moved to Sweden to study dentistry, funding his education by working as a DJ. The pulsating energy of Stockholm’s club scene proved more compelling than a dental practice, and he began producing his own tracks, blending his African roots with European dance beats and a distinctive, chanted vocal style. His 1992 single 'It's My Life' became a global phenomenon, an anthem of self-determination that topped charts from Europe to Australia. With his signature dreadlocks and colorful stage presence, he became a defining figure of the early-90s Eurodance wave, operating through his own independent label, Dr. Records. While the hits eventually slowed, his influence persists in the cross-continental DNA of modern pop, proving that a dentist can indeed have the world dancing to his beat.

Dr. was born in 1957, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
