Biography

Emerging from the British folk clubs with a guitar and a harmonica, Donovan was initially tagged as a Dylan imitator. He swiftly outgrew the comparison, blossoming into the quintessential voice of the 1967 Summer of Love. Collaborating with producer Mickie Most, he traded protest for kaleidoscopic fantasy, crafting a string of hits that were both whimsical and profound. Songs like 'Sunshine Superman' and 'Mellow Yellow' fused folk with baroque pop, rock, and Eastern influences, creating a sound that was entirely his own. His journey to India with the Beatles to study under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi cemented his status as a spiritual seeker for a generation. While the psychedelic tide receded, Donovan's music endured as a perfectly preserved capsule of optimism and gentle revolution.

Baby Boomers

1946–1964

The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.

Donovan was born in 1946, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
