Biography

Donnie Munro's voice became the sound of modern Scottish identity for a generation. Hailing from the Isle of Skye, he joined the fledgling band Runrig in 1973, his baritone imbued with the history and passion of the Highlands. During his tenure as frontman, the group evolved from a folk club act into a major concert draw, with albums like 'The Cutter and the Clan' achieving platinum status. Munro was more than a singer; he was a cultural ambassador, his performances of songs like 'Loch Lomond' and the groundbreaking Gaelic hit 'An Ubhal as Àirde' forging a deep emotional connection with diaspora Scots worldwide. In a surprising pivot, he left the band at its commercial peak to stand for Parliament, blending his artistic platform with a commitment to social democratic politics.

Baby Boomers

1946–1964

The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.

Donnie was born in 1953, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
