Biography

Dero Goi, born Stephan Musiol, co-founded Oomph! in Wolfsburg in 1989, becoming the band's central creative engine as lead vocalist, primary lyricist, and drummer. Alongside guitarist Robert Flux and bassist Andreas Crap, he helped define the Neue Deutsche Härte (New German Hardness) sound—a muscular blend of industrial metal, electronic beats, and accessible pop melodies, all delivered in German. Goi's theatrical, androgynous stage persona and lyrics exploring themes of desire, pain, and social critique gave the band a distinct identity. Oomph! achieved mainstream success in Germany and influenced a wave of bands, most notably Rammstein. After over three decades, Goi's departure from the band in 2021 marked the end of an era, but his impact on the German alternative music scene remains deeply etched.

Generation X

1965–1980

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.

Dero was born in 1970, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
