A Russian winger whose explosive World Cup performance in 2018 announced him to the global stage with four stunning goals.
Denis Cheryshev's career has been defined by moments of brilliant, fleeting explosion. The son of a professional footballer, he came through the famed academy of Real Madrid but found his path to the first team blocked by galactic talents. Loan spells at Sevilla, Villarreal, and Valencia showcased his direct, left-footed prowess, but consistency was elusive. Then, on home soil at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Cheryshev authored a storybook chapter. Thrust into the starting lineup due to injury, he scored four goals in Russia's run to the quarterfinals, including a breathtaking curling strike against Croatia. That tournament cemented his place in Russian football lore. His club journey continued with moves across Europe, a testament to the talent that, while sometimes intermittent, could light up the biggest stages with devastating effect.

Denis was born in 1990, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.

He was born in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, but moved to Spain as a child when his father, Dmitri Cheryshev, played there.
Cheryshev is one of only a few players to have represented two different countries at youth international levels (Russia and Spain).
He made his professional debut for Real Madrid Castilla, the reserve team, and later made one official first-team appearance for the club.
