Biography

David Tennant, born David John McDonald in West Lothian, Scotland, was a boy obsessed with acting, famously joining the Actors' Equity union at 16 to avoid a name clash with another David McDonald. His early career was a whirlwind of stage work and sharp television roles, from the manic Barty Crouch Jr. in 'Harry Potter' to the darkly compelling Casanova. But his 2005 casting as the Tenth Doctor in 'Doctor Who' catapulted him into a different stratosphere. Tennant infused the Time Lord with a manic energy, wit, and a heartbreaking vulnerability, his tenure defining the show's modern era and cementing a passionate international fanbase. Since hanging up the sonic screwdriver, he has deliberately avoided typecasting, moving seamlessly from the brooding detective in 'Broadchurch' to the louche demon Crowley in 'Good Omens', all while maintaining a formidable presence in theatre. His surprise return as the Fourteenth Doctor in 2023 was a cultural event, a testament to his enduring and intimate connection with the role.

Generation X

1965–1980

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.

David was born in 1971, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
