A versatile Scottish musician whose melodic bass and voice powered 1970s pop anthems and progressive rock classics.
David Paton's career is a thread woven through the fabric of 1970s and 80s rock. He first found fame as the frontman and bassist for Pilot, the pop group behind the timeless hits 'Magic' and 'January,' which showcased his warm vocal tone and knack for a perfect hook. That musicality made him a sought-after session player, most significantly by producer Alan Parsons. As a foundational member of The Alan Parsons Project, Paton's basslines and lead vocals are etched into songs like 'Eye in the Sky' and 'Games People Play,' providing the human core to Parsons' elaborate sonic architectures. His reliable skill and melodic sense kept him in constant demand, leading to collaborations with artists from the delicate artistry of Kate Bush to the rock grandeur of Elton John and Camel.

David was born in 1949, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
