Biography

David Lane's life was a trajectory from fringe activist to convicted domestic terrorist. A committed neo-Nazi, he helped found The Order, a militant group dedicated to sparking a racial war. The group's campaign of robbery and violence culminated in the 1984 murder of Jewish talk radio host Alan Berg in Denver. Lane, who drove the getaway car, was convicted on racketeering and civil rights charges, receiving a 190-year sentence. It was behind bars that his influence metastasized. He authored the '14 Words'—'We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children'—a mantra that became the central creed for white nationalists worldwide. His prolific output of essays and manifestos, circulated through prison networks and early internet forums, provided an ideological framework that outlived him, making him a prophet of hate for a new generation of extremists.

The Silent Generation

1928–1945

Born between the Depression and the end of WWII. Too young to fight, old enough to remember. They became the conformist middle managers of the 1950s — and the civil rights leaders who quietly dismantled Jim Crow.

David was born in 1938, placing them squarely in The Silent Generation. The events that shaped this generation — world wars, depression, and rapid industrialization — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
