A French musical storyteller whose powerful voice and emotive piano compositions defined the role of Moïse in the stage epic 'Les Dix Commandements'.
Daniel Lévi's life was a composition of North African roots, classical training, and pop sensibility. Born in Algeria, his family moved to Lyon when he was a child, where he immersed himself in music, mastering the piano. His career began in the 1980s, weaving through pop albums that showcased his songwriting and a voice that could shift from a tender whisper to a soaring cry. His defining moment came in 2000 when he was cast as Moïse in the French musical phenomenon 'Les Dix Commandements.' His performance of 'L'Envie d'aimer' became an anthem, a song of yearning that topped charts for months and embedded itself in the nation's cultural memory. Though the musical made him a star, Lévi continued to create introspective solo work, his artistry always marked by a deep, philosophical searching until his passing in 2022.
