A voice of Brazilian sertanejo who brought the genre's romantic heart to a massive national audience before his tragic death.
Cristiano Araújo's 2009 hit 'É o Amor' broke through, but his 2011 album 'Continua' spawned anthems like 'Mente Pra Mim' and made him a star. Born in Goiânia in 1986, he grew up immersed in Brazil's sertanejo music. He lived the genre's themes of love, heartbreak, and celebration. His charismatic stage presence and rugged, tender voice made him a fixture at massive rodeos and festivals. He earned platinum records and sold-out tours. Araújo died in a car accident in 2015 at age 29. In his brief career, he became a defining figure of the 'sertanejo universitário' wave, leaving songs that remain genre staples.
