Biography
Christina Onassis inherited the Onassis shipping empire after her father's death in 1975, overseeing a fleet of tankers and the Olympic Airways airline. Born in New York City to Aristotle Onassis and Tina Livanos, she grew up amid immense wealth and family tragedy. Her parents divorced when she was young. Her mother died of a drug overdose in 1974. Her brother Alexander died in a plane crash in 1973. Christina married four times: to Joseph Bolker, Alexandros Andreadis, Sergei Kauzov, and Thierry Roussel. She had one daughter, Athina Roussel, born in 1985. Christina died of a pulmonary edema at age 37 in Buenos Aires. She was a shrewd businesswoman who maintained tight control over the Onassis holdings. Her daughter Athina inherited the fortune estimated at $500 million.
