Biography

Charles Taylor's legacy is one of profound devastation. A charismatic and ruthless figure, he launched a rebellion in 1989 that plunged Liberia into a brutal civil war, notorious for its use of child soldiers. He leveraged chaos into power, becoming president in 1997, but his rule was defined by corruption and the export of violence, particularly his support for rebels in Sierra Leone's bloody conflict in exchange for 'blood diamonds.' Forced from office in 2003, he became the first former head of state since Nuremberg to be convicted by an international tribunal for war crimes and crimes against humanity. His 50-year sentence, for atrocities including murder, rape, and enslavement, stands as a grim milestone in the pursuit of accountability for leaders who unleash hell.

Baby Boomers

1946–1964

The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.

Charles was born in 1948, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
