A short-track speed skating titan whose explosive power and clutch performances made him Canada's most decorated Olympic skater.
Charles Hamelin didn't just compete in short track; he dominated its most pressure-filled moments for a generation. Hailing from Sainte-Julie, Quebec, he burst onto the international scene in the mid-2000s, quickly becoming known for his formidable strength and tactical daring, especially in the longer distances. His Olympic career is a highlight reel of dramatic finishes, from a stunning gold in the 1500m on home ice in Vancouver 2010 to a triumphant, career-capping gold in the 500m at age 33 in PyeongChang 2018. Off the ice, his leadership was pivotal, anchoring multiple world-champion relay teams. Hamelin retired having touched every summit in his sport, a complete competitor whose longevity and peak performance are rarely matched.
