A Canadian ice dancer who, with her partner and husband, carved a unique competitive path representing both her homeland and Ireland on the world stage.
Carolane Soucisse’s skating story is one of partnership, patience, and international reinvention. Teaming up with Shane Firus in 2014, the Montreal-based duo quickly became known for their smooth, flowing style and expressive interpretation of music. They found success skating for Canada, capturing a silver medal at the Four Continents Championships in 2018 and standing on the national podium. When their quest for a Canadian Olympic spot proved elusive, they made a bold pivot. Leveraging Firus’s Irish heritage, they began representing Ireland in 2022, instantly becoming the country’s leading ice dance team. Donning green and competing to Celtic-inspired programs, they won multiple Irish national titles and brought renewed visibility to Irish figure skating at European and World Championships. Their career, culminating in retirement after the 2025 season, exemplifies the modern athlete’s global journey, driven by a shared love for performance and a determination to compete on their own terms.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Carolane was born in 1995, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
