The sonic architect behind Yello, whose innovative sampling and production crafted a uniquely playful and textured electronic soundscape.
Boris Blank is the reclusive half of the Swiss electronic music pioneers Yello, a partnership with performance artist Dieter Meier that began in the late 1970s. While Meier handled vocals and concept, Blank was the studio wizard, building their signature sound from a kaleidoscope of sampled noises, synthesized melodies, and intricate rhythms long before digital production became mainstream. His work is less about traditional songwriting and more about constructing immersive audio worlds—bubbling, percussive, and often whimsical. Tracks like 'The Race' and 'Oh Yeah' became cultural touchstones, their infectious energy a testament to Blank's ability to find the musicality in the seemingly mundane. He remains a cult figure, an inventor whose influence quietly permeates decades of electronic and pop music.

The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.
Boris was born in 1952, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
