A Norwegian powerhouse who dominates on water and snow, claiming world titles in both para rowing and cross-country skiing.
Birgit Skarstein embodies a rare class of athlete: a champion in two completely different sports at the world level. A spinal cord injury from a medical procedure at 19 could have defined her life; instead, it launched a parallel track of elite athleticism and forceful advocacy. From a hospital bed, she set a goal to compete in the Paralympics, and she pursued it with relentless focus. In para rowing, she became a force of nature, her powerful strokes earning her a world championship title in 2013 and, after a heartbreaking fourth-place finish in Rio 2016, the ultimate prize of Paralympic gold in Tokyo 2020. Not content with a single discipline, she simultaneously pursued cross-country skiing, winning World Championship medals on snow as well. Off the field of play, Skarstein is a compelling speaker and entrepreneur, openly discussing disability, body image, and inclusion. Her retirement in 2025 closed a chapter on a career that redefined the limits of Paralympic potential, proving excellence is not confined to a single arena.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Birgit was born in 1989, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
