A one-club midfield stalwart whose loyalty and consistent performances made him a Hartlepool United institution for over a decade.
Antony Sweeney made nearly 450 appearances for Hartlepool United across 13 seasons. The Middlesbrough-born midfielder debuted in 2001 after coming up through the club's youth system. For over a decade, Sweeney operated as Hartlepool's midfield engine, scoring crucial goals from deep positions and arriving late into the box with timing that troubled defenses. His versatility allowed him to adapt under numerous managers, through promotions and relegations, without losing his place. Sweeney's work rate and intelligence made him a fixture in the side, not flashy but consistently reliable. He ended his playing career with a short spell at Carlisle United. After retiring, Sweeney returned to Hartlepool as a coach, then moved to Stockport County as first-team coach, carrying the same steady professionalism he showed across 13 years on the pitch.

Antony was born in 1983, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
