A strategic and unflappable political operator who became the SNP's voice in Westminster and a key architect of modern Scotland's global profile.
Angus Robertson's career has been defined by a steady, multilingual focus on advancing Scottish interests on both the British and international stages. Born in London to a Scottish father, he was politically active from his teens, joining the SNP and cutting his teeth as a journalist in Austria and Scotland. Elected as MP for Moray in 2001, he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the SNP's Westminster leader in 2007—a role he held for a decade. In that position, he transformed a small group of MPs into a disciplined and effective parliamentary force, notably during the 2014 independence referendum campaign. After losing his seat in 2017, he staged a political comeback, winning a Scottish Parliament seat in 2021 and being appointed Cabinet Secretary for the Constitution, External Affairs and Culture. In this role, he has been instrumental in framing the case for a second independence referendum while also working to bolster Scotland's direct cultural and diplomatic ties with Europe and beyond, operating with a calm, statesmanlike demeanor that belies the contentious nature of his brief.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Angus was born in 1969, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
