Biography

Andreas Hedlund, operating primarily under the name Vintersorg (Winter Sorrow), is a singular force in Scandinavian metal. Hailing from the remote landscapes of northern Sweden, his music is a direct reflection of that environment: vast, cold, and majestic. He is a true multi-instrumentalist, writing, performing, and producing complex albums that blend black metal's raw energy with progressive structures, folk melodies, and clean, soaring vocals. His intellectual curiosity sets him apart; lyrics are not afterthoughts but central pillars, written almost exclusively in Swedish and exploring cosmology, Norse mythology, and the metaphysics of nature. This unique vision made him a perfect fit for the Norwegian progressive black metal band Borknagar, where he has served as lead vocalist for over two decades, bringing his distinctive voice to a wider audience. More than just a musician, Vintersorg is a philosopher with a guitar, crafting soundscapes that are as thought-provoking as they are powerful.

Generation X

1965–1980

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.

Andreas was born in 1973, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
