Sweden's tattooed, fiscal-hardliner finance minister who steered the country's economy through the global financial crisis with strict austerity measures.
Anders Borg became the face of Sweden's pragmatic conservatism in the 21st century, a former punk rock fan turned suit-and-tie fiscal hawk. Appointed Finance Minister in 2006, his shaved head, earring, and visible tattoos broke the mold of Scandinavian politicians. His tenure was defined by the 2008 global financial crisis, to which he responded not with massive stimulus, but with a firm commitment to budget discipline, spending cuts, and tax reductions. This approach, controversial to some, was credited with maintaining Sweden's economic stability and strong credit rating while much of Europe faltered. Borg's policies emphasized work over welfare and positioned Sweden's Moderaterna party as stewards of responsible growth, making him one of Europe's most recognizable and debated finance ministers of his time.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Anders was born in 1968, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
