A dependable Russian defenseman who carved out roles in both the NHL and KHL, known for his steady, physical play.
Alexey Marchenko's hockey career is a study in adaptability and resilience. Drafted late by the Detroit Red Wings, the Moscow-born defenseman worked his way up, leveraging a smart, stay-at-home style and a right-handed shot to earn a regular NHL spot. He wasn't a flashy scorer but a reliable pillar in his own zone, blocking shots and using his frame to separate opponents from the puck. After parts of four seasons in Detroit and a brief stint with Toronto, he returned to his homeland, where he became a stalwart for CSKA Moscow and later Ak Bars Kazan in the KHL. There, he evolved into a leader, winning Gagarin Cups and representing Russia internationally, proving his value as a versatile and championship-caliber defender on both sides of the ocean.
