A versatile Kentucky Wildcat who evolved from a top high school recruit into a durable professional champion overseas.
Alex Poythress won the VTB United League Finals MVP in 2021 with CSKA Moscow. A five-star recruit out of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Mr. Basketball, he played for John Calipari at Kentucky as part of the 2012 recruiting class and the 2015 team that started 38-0 before reaching the Final Four. A serious knee injury tested his resilience, shifting him from explosive dunker to a valued glue guy known for defensive versatility. Undrafted by the NBA, he carved out a significant career abroad, winning multiple Russian championships. He also became a naturalized citizen of Ivory Coast, representing their national team internationally.
