Biography
Alex O'Loughlin played Steve McGarrett in the CBS reboot of Hawaii Five-0 for ten seasons. After studying at Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art, he built a resume of brooding characters in Australian film and television. His U.S. breakout came with the short-lived vampire detective series Moonlight, which showcased his soulful presence. CBS cast him in successive dramas before giving him the daunting task of rebooting Jack Lord's original role. O'Loughlin traded aloofness for a wounded, driven intensity, performing many of his own stunts. He embraced Hawaiian culture and became a fixture on the islands. His tenure represents a rare feat: successfully reviving a classic and making it a durable hit.
