An Australian goalkeeper who rose from obscurity to become a Premier League stalwart and a penalty-saving hero for his country.
Adam Federici saved a penalty in a 2008 FA Cup shootout for Reading, a moment that defined his decade at the club. Spotted playing in New South Wales, he moved to England as a teenager and spent years on loan in the lower leagues. He eventually won the number one jersey at the Madejski Stadium, his agile shot-stopping and calm distribution earning him a long run as a fan favorite. Federici earned caps for the Socceroos and featured in World Cup qualifiers. He finished his career back in England's Championship and in the A-League, respected as a model professional. Born in 1985, his journey from the Australian outback to English football's top flight was built on patience and perseverance.

Adam was born in 1985, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
