Armenian Catholic archbishop and martyr (1869–1915)

Ignatius Maloyan, born as Shukrallah Maloyan, was an Armenian Catholic prelate who served as Archbishop of Mardin from 1911 to 1915. After repeatedly refusing conversion to Islam, he was tortured and murdered by the Ottoman Gendarmerie during the Armenian genocide, specifically in Diyarbekir Vilayet under Mehmed Reshid. Maloyan was beatified by Pope John Paul II as a martyr in 2001. In 2025, Pope Francis approved a plan for his canonization. He was canonized on October 19, 2025.
