Birth flower for June
The rose has been cultivated for at least five thousand years, making it one of the oldest ornamental plants in human history. There are over thirty thousand cultivated varieties, bred for color, fragrance, size, and disease resistance. The rose industry is enormous — Ecuador, Colombia, and Kenya are major exporters, and the global cut flower trade ships billions of rose stems annually. A red rose means romantic love, but the symbolism varies by color: yellow for friendship, white for purity, pink for gratitude. The rose is the national flower of the United States, England, and several other countries.
Why Rose for June?
The rose became June's flower because June is peak rose season in the Northern Hemisphere and has been the traditional month for weddings since Roman times. The Romans scattered rose petals at wedding feasts, and the association between roses, romance, and June weddings has persisted for over two thousand years.
